Brief Background of SSP's

A great future for School Sports

The School Sport Co-ordinator programme was launched in September 2000. The Bexley (Woodside) SSP was established in September 2003 and is one of two School Sports Partnerships in the London Borough of Bexley.

The partnerships were originally funded for three years, but the DCMS & DCSF have approved further funding of the programme until August 2011.

The Partnership is an integral part of both the governments PE, School Sport and Young People (PESSYP) and the Local Authority and school's PE and school sport strategy.

The Partnership's were tasked with achieving the PSA target of 85% of young people undertaking 2 hours of PE and School Sport by July 2008. The Bexley Woodside School Sport Partnership is proud that it reached this target a year early and has achieved 94% of young people aged between 5 and 16 undertaking at least 2 hours of PE and School Sport within its Partnership.

The next challenge for the Partnership is to work with our partners and schools to deliver the governments aspirations of all young people accessing 5 hours of PE and Sport.
