DFOK serves the orienteering fraternity in SE London and NW Kent. Orienteering events in Kent/South East London 1) Kent Orienteering League and Kent Schools Cup: The local orienteering clubs run monthly events on a saturday morning. There is an easy course suitable for complete beginners and young juniors (about 2 km long), an intermediate course with the controls off the paths (about 3.5 km long) and a hard course for experienced orienteers (about 5.5 Km long). There are male and female junior leagues on all 3 courses. The best male and female junior on each course receives 100 points. Everyone else gets less points depending on how far they are behind the winner. Nearly everyone will score points. There are prizes at the end of the season for the best 5 out of 10 scores for juniors on all courses. The Kent School League uses Kent Orienteering League events. The best 2 individual results from each school on any course are added to the total after every event. The school with the most points at the end of the series wins the cup. Senior school juniors running the short course will have their time adjusted by 1.1 to compete equally with the primary school juniors. Kent Orienteering League events are very friendly, and help is always available for those who haven't tried orienteering before. You do not have to be a member of an orienteering club, and all equipment will be provided. 2) Other events: Local clubs put on another 10-15 events, mainly on sunday mornings. These are normally bigger events with a larger range of courses, and sometimes a string course for very young juniors. The best place to view event details are the local club websites www.dfok.co.uk (events in South East London/North Kent) and www.saxons-org.uk (events in the rest of Kent) or contact newcomers@dfok.co.uk
